The Archbishop Holgate’s School Unity Fund was founded in 2018 borne out of an idea of giving acts of kindness to those students where a little given would mean a lot. This could be from giving a pencil case or a new school bag to helping with the costs of a second hand bike to save on bus fares. In 2021 we were able to buy every student starting in September reading book and this is something we will a Money to form the fund was raised by holding a Christmas Fayre and we have continued to fund raise ever since with support from friends, families and staff.
The Unity Fund is also solely responsible for the provision of all the food that is available at our wonderful Breakfast Club; this has enabled students to be given nutritional choices to help them start the day.
It is important to us at AHS that the wider community can be part of our school community. The Unity Fund has donated towards and funded many events such as coffee mornings for the elderly in the local area to help combat loneliness, supplying lifts where necessary. We have given Christmas presents and hampers for those living alone or in assisted accommodation, held afternoon tea for the families of our students where English is an additional language and given tickets to the elderly for our school shows.
The pandemic changed the way in which the fund was used as we quickly came to realise the needs of our school community. Working with local councillors we helped to get parcels out to those in need. We then followed this up with supermarket vouchers. We have now created our own emergency food and toiletries bank to ensure we support our families who are most in need whilst continuing with the work we started when the Unity Fund was formed.
We have recently launched our second hand uniform shop. More details on this can be found at: https://app.uniformd.co.uk/items/172. Parents are notified when the purchase is available for collection from school.
We are always grateful for donations to help support the Unity Fund. This can be from items such as baked goods and crafts for us to sell at our Christmas Fayre to donations for our food bank and uniform shop.
