Start of term September 2020
School will fully reopen for ALL students in September 2020. Due to Year 7 not being able to visit the school as part of their transition to secondary school, Tuesday 8th September will be open to Year 7 and 12 only. Years 8, 9, 10, 11 and 13 will start on Wednesday 9th September.
Below is a guide to the start of term, with specific details for each Year group. We ask that all parents ensure that their child is fully aware of the following arrangements.
The following information is specific to Year 7. If you have a child in more than one year group, please ensure you also read their sections.
School day timings
Until we can return to the ‘normal’ school day, Year 7 school day will be as follows:
- Before school (8.00 to 8.30am): Students can either go to Breakfast club in the Main Hall or their social areas.
- Drifting into school (8.30 to 8.45am): As students arrive, we are asking they go their form rooms gradually, ensuring they maintain their distance. When they arrive at their form rooms, they will be provided with Wellbeing activities to complete.
- Form Time (8.45 to 8.50am)
- Period 1 (8.50 to 9.45am)
- Break (9.45 to 10.10am): Students will be taken to break in the Main Hall. They will wash their hands before entering the Main Hall and can then choose to purchase a snack, socialise in the Main Hall or on the Year 7 field.
- Period 2 (10.10 to 11.10am)
- Period 3 (11.10 to 12.00am)
- Lunch (12.00 to 12.40pm): Students will be taken to lunch in the Main Hall. They will wash their hands before entering the Main Hall and can then choose to purchase a snack, socialise in the Main Hall or on the Year 7 field.
- Period 4 (12.40 to 1.50pm)
- Form Time (1.50 to 2.10pm)
- Period 5 (2.10 to 3.00pm)
- End of the school day (3.00pm)
Year 7 Provision
The government guidance is very clear that schools must do everything possible to minimise contact and mixing while delivering a broad and balanced curriculum. We have tried to do this, but some compromises have had to be made, due to the use of specialist classrooms and the need for enhanced cleaning between different Year groups use of them.
- Year 7 will follow their ‘normal’ timetable, except all lessons will be taught in:
- The new Maths block.
- Year 7 will be taught in their form group for all lessons except:
- Maths
- Practical subjects will be limited because they will not be taught in specialist rooms.
- PE lessons will be limited to content that has been risk assessed as safe to complete.
- Form rooms will be based in their ‘zone of school’
Year 7 Zone
Year 7 lesson will be taught in the new Maths block. The only lesson where this will not happen is PE, where students will take themselves to the changing rooms. PE will where possible be taught outside.
Year 7 will use the toilets in the Maths Block, except for at break when they can use the toilets on the Technology corridor.

Year 7 students must wash their hands:
- At the start of the school day, using the facilities outside of the Maths Block.
- Before entering the Main Hall at break and lunchtime, using the facilities just outside of the Main Hall.

Year 7 students must sanitise their hands:
- If they move between classrooms.

First day at Archbishop Holgate’s School (Tuesday 8th September)
On the first day of school (Tuesday 8th September), Year 7 students will enter school from either the Main School Drive or the Black Bull Entrance. They need to arrive between 8.30 and 8.45am. We would politely ask that no parents enter the school site and they are thoughtful and considerate when dropping off their children.
Year 7 will then walk up the path (maintaining social distance where possible) and go to the handwashing facilities at the front of the Maths block.
They will then need to wash their hands before going to their form rooms.

There will be lots of staff available to support students in finding their form rooms.
During the day
Students will complete a range of activities to prepare them for the start of school. This will include:
- An assembly with Mr Daly (Headteacher) and Miss Kincell (Head of Year). Please note, this will be a socially distanced assembly (about a third of the Year group at any time).
- A range of Form Time Activities
- A tour of the whole school
- Break and lunch arrangements demonstration
- Lessons
- Biometrics for paying for food
Please note that only Year 7 and 12 are in school on Tuesday 8th September.
Lunch and breaktime
We have not been able to set up the students Biometrics before September, therefore the school will provide free snack at break and a free lunch on the first day only, for those students who do not have their own.
At the end of the day
School will finish at 3pm and students will exit from either the Black Bull or Main Drive. We politely ask that no parents come onto the school site and arrange meeting places beforehand.

On Wednesday ALL students will attend school, starting at 8.45am. Year 7 will need to ‘drift’ into school between 8.30 and 8.45am, washing their hands outside of the Maths block.
On Wednesday they will have Form Time in the morning, until Period 3 at which point the school will start their lessons for the year.

Sixth Form Provision

The Sixth Form will be based in an entire bubble including the Sixth Form block, Geography block and the new resource centre.
Some lessons will be taught in specialist rooms which will be cleaned between each lesson.
Sixth Form will use the toilets in the Sixth Form block only.
