AHS Journey Challenge Week 3

Even though you are currently not at school, you will continue to develop and grow as an individual. Your AHS journey has not stopped! Each week, we will send you things to think about yourself and set you challenges to share with others and others in the year group. This is optional but we would love to hear from you all!

Personal Reflection

This week, we’re stepping back from work and thinking about widening our interests. This is a great opportunity to try some new culture. Try some of the following links to develop a new passion for theatre and the arts:

The National Theatre are streaming a new production each week. You can experience world class theatre from home! These week, they are screening “Treasure Island” which can be watched here: https://www.youtube.com/user/ntdiscovertheatre

Next week is a superb performance of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night”

The Globe Theatre is sharing plays online, including 37 Short Films and full length productions: https://globeplayer.tv/

Or if musicals are more your thing, check out Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Shows Must Go On”. The show’s are streamed each weekend, for 48 hours only so don’t miss out! https://www.andrewlloydwebber.com/the-shows-must-go-on/

AHS Journey Challenge

This week, we want to hear from you! We want to know what you’ve watched and how you’ve broadened your cultural horizons!

  1. Please update us with a message, sending it to either Mr Arthur aarthur@archbishopholgates.org or Mr Williams at mwilliams1@archbishopholgates.or and we will share a selection of these on the Year 11 page. It’s important to keep in touch!

AHS Journey Challenge Week 2

Even though you are currently not at school, you will continue to develop and grow as an individual. Your AHS journey has not stopped! Each week, we will send you things to think about yourself and set you challenges to share with others and others in the year group. This is optional but we would love to hear from you all!

Personal Reflection

Now you’ve had a bit of time to adjust and get used to your time at home, how are you preparing for your next steps and deepening your interests?

Have you:

  • Started working on the transition packs? Remember, you should do as many of these as you like and find new interests in subjects.
  • Started reading around subjects that interest you? For example: in English read lots from one author; in history researched a period that interests you?

Started to get more interested in the world around you? Do you read a particular newspaper online? Have you tried https://www.theweek.co.uk/ for a different perspective?

AHS Journey Challenge

  1. This week, we want to hear from you! We want to know what you’re doing and what you’re reading.
  2. Please update us with a message, sending it to either Mr Arthur aarthur@archbishopholgates.org or Mr Williams at mwilliams1@archbishopholgates.or and we will share a selection of these on the Year 11 page. It’s important to keep in touch!

Message from Mr Arthur (6/4/20)

Good Afternoon Year 11,

Well as we reach the end of Week 2 of lockdown, I hope you are all well and beginning to establish some form of productive daily routine – for instance, have we been doing our PE lessons with Joe Wicks?

This is certainly a time where we all need to stick together – are we all contacting friends and family regularly using WhatsApp, or video messaging? It is these little efforts that will help us all to get through this!

I am particularly enjoying the applause that has been given for Frontline NHS Staff on a Thursday evening at 8pm – the work they are doing is truly incredible and makes me feel so proud and fortunate to be living in this country. It is also important for all of us to do our part by staying inside. I know it is difficult and I am certainly feeling the strains of isolation myself. However, always remember that the more strictly we follow the guidance, the sooner this will all be over and we can begin returning to our normal lives.

I want to reiterate to you all Mr Daly’s commitment that if for whatever reason you are unsure about what is happening next year, there is a place for all Year 11s at AHS Sixth Form. Teachers are beginning to put Year 11/12 transition resources onto the Google Drive so that you can be looking at in preparation for your Sixth Form Studies. I very much look forward to seeing (and perhaps teaching!) many of you in September 2020!

As part of this update, I also want to provide some clarity about work. In terms of BTEC subjects, the deadlines are as follows as follows:

For Year 11 BTEC students, outlined below are the current submission deadlines in place:

Business:

  • 27/3/2020: Assignment 1 – Email submission of completed Business Plan (week 1 on Google Drive)
  • 3/4/2020 : Assignment 2 – Email submission of completed Business Presentation (week 2 on Google Drive)
  • 17/4/2020: Assignment 3 – Email submission of evaluation (Will be week 3 and 4 on Google Drive)
  • 1/5/2020 :  All corrections as required

IT:

  • Component 2 – Assignment B – Monday 20th April – Corrections only (re-submission)
  • Component 2 – Assignment C – Monday 20th April – Corrections only (re-submission)

Engineering:

  • Monday 6th April – Component 2 LA.A – resubmission of assignment corrections
  • Friday 17th April Component 2 LA.B – resubmission of assignment corrections

With regards to other qualifications, Ofqual have today released further information about how examination grades will be awarded – you mar or may not have seen this in the news. Details will follow shortly in a letter from Miss McDermott and Mr Daly

Finally, I wish to reiterate the Year 11 team’s commitment to ensure that you have the proper send off you all want and deserve! The timing of these plans are subject to the restrictions placed on us during the pandemic, but we will be having a celebration event at the school where students can pick up their Yearbooks, Hoodies and bring in shirts to sign. We will also ensure that the prom goes ahead, and whilst it will be late, it will be a fantastic time for us to celebrate your journey through Archbishop Holgate’s School.

Take care and stay safe – maybe this week might be a good opportunity to share your favourite memories of each other in school with friends?

If you have any questions, please email year11team@archbishopholgates.org – this will mean myself, Miss McDermott, Mr Deamer and Ms Hirst will be able to see it and one of us will get back to you.

AHS Journey Challenge Week 1

Even though you are currently not at school, you will continue to develop and grow as an individual. Your AHS journey has not stopped! Each week, we will send you things to think about yourself and set you challenges to share with others and others in the year group. This is optional but we would love to hear from you all!

Personal Reflection

This has been a really challenging time for Year 11 and you will still feel lots of uncertainty about what will happen next. However, it is important to focus on what you can control.

Have you thought about:

  • What you will do when this is all over?
  • What are you excited about doing next year?
  • Challenging yourself with different work?

How would you like to celebrate with the rest of Year 11 when we can?

AHS Journey Challenge Week 1

This week, we want to hear from you! We want to know how you are doing and what you’re focusing on at the moment. We also want to know if there is anything we can do!

Please update us with a message, sending it to either Mr Arthur aarthur@archbishopholgates.org or Mr Williams at mwilliams1@archbishopholgates.or and we will share a selection of these on the Year 11 page. It’s important to keep in touch!
