Personal Reflection
During these uncertain times, it can be hard to focus on the future. However, it is important to have long term goals and focus on careers and professions you may want to go into. Spend this time looking into career options and doing some research into skills needed.
Visit “Life Skills” created in association with Barclays, to sign up for “Virtual Work Experience” Virtual Work Experience gives you a unique opportunity to gain work experience in a company that you might not normally get access to while highlighting the essential skills you might need.

Congratulations to the following who have significantly impressed staff whilst working at home:
- Beth Mason – Beth is working incredibly hard, and her grades are improving with every assessment. Fantastic work! Mrs McMurdo.
- Rosie Chivers – Rosie is always one of the first to hand in work, and the quality is excellent. Her last two assessed pieces of work have been particularly good. Mrs McMurdo.
- Maia Hallam – Maia is keeping in regular contact, and works hard to respond to all targets. As a result, she improved her last assessment by two grades. Keep it up! Mrs McMurdo.
- Amandi Silva-Kalinga – nominated by Mr Charlton and Mrs Hopkinson-Kearney in Business for a series of outstanding pieces of work using Google Drive resources. Fantastic work!
- Maya Hayes – I would like to commend Maya in particular. She is working incredibly hard and is always keen to seek improvementss. Ms Gray

Message from Mr Charlton (7th April 2020)
Spring is a fantastic time of the year. Evenings stay lighter for longer, the weather improves and we have Easter celebrations to look forward. Some of you may even have been planning to go on a holiday or short break at some point over the next two weeks, indeed I should have been driving to Centre Parks today with the family, instead I am sat at the dining room table in front of a lap top.
For Year 12 students, the Easter holiday will always be doubly important as we expect you to continue to work hard towards your A-Levels and BTEC qualifications. Despite the challenging times, this year is no exception and I hope you have been able to settle into a working at home routine that works well for you.
Congratulations to the following students who have excelled working from home over the past two weeks.
- Beth Mason – nominated by Mrs Kellett for producing great quality work in Psychology which is often handed in before the deadline. Keep up the great work!
- Daisy Pearson – nominated by Mr Avery for a piece of work which is outstanding and is by far the best essay she has written me all year.
- Michael Joyce & Hannah Smith – nominated by Mr Charlton in Business for a series of outstanding pieces of work using Google Drive resources. Fantastic work!
- Katie Fearnley & Olivia Teasdale – nominated by Mrs Armes for their ongoing hard work & commitment in French, although the whole class have been excellent!
- Abby Dennis, Amy Birchall, Emily Pearcy – nominated by Mr Knox. These students have worked incredibly hard completed work to a great standard, despite the challenges of adapting to Home Learning.
Well done to you all!
Mr Charlton

Y12 to Y13 Transition:
Y12 have adjusted to the school closure in an impressive manner. They are responding well to the work being set and they understand the significance of not falling behind despite these very difficult circumstances. The work being set has been adjusted to support Home Learning and feedback is being given alongside, where possible, recorded lessons. We are all adjusting together and it is preparing us all for the best start to Y13 that we can hope for despite this prolonged period of absence from school. At this time we do not know if we will be returning to school before the summer break and we are having to plan what to do if summer assessments are unable to take place for Y12. The Y12 assessments are usually the key indicator in what plan we put in place for students progressing to Y13. We still plan on having transition meetings with families when we are able to, to best discuss what is needed to secure future progression plans. If we do not return to school before the end of the summer term, we will reschedule the summer mock exams and move them to the Autumn term. This is to ensure that we can monitor progress and put in place the necessary intervention to support expected outcomes at the end of Y13. Following these assessments we can have further meetings with families to discuss slimming the curriculum down from four subjects to three where appropriate, something we usually do following the summer exams. This does mean that students must be putting equal effort into the Home Learning of all of their subjects despite their future plans and aspirations. The aim of this is to ensure that all students leave us with the very strongest of outcomes that they can, across at least three subjects, something required for Higher Education and to be a competitive apprentice applicant. Once we have more clarity over when school may resume, we will be able to formulate a proper plan and notify you of it. In the meantime, Y12 should continue as they are.
Should they need any support or there are any questions regarding any of this, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Message from Mr Charlton (30th March 2020)
Happy Monday!
I hope you’ve all had a restful weekend and are ready to begin the second week of home learning. Last week was a real challenge for staff and students alike, working from home isn’t easy and it can be difficult to motivate yourself and distance yourself from distractions. I’ve had to start leaving my phone in another room as I found myself checking it more frequently than I would have liked.
Lots of your teachers have emailed to say how well you are working from home – please keep it up! For those of you finding your work or meeting deadlines difficult, please email us.
Best wishes
Mr Charlton

Message from Mr Charlton (26th March 2020)
Hello Year 12
I hope you’ve had a lovely day and have been able to enjoy some of the glorious sunshine we’ve had these past couple of days.
Have you set up a routine for yourselves? Getting up as if it were a normal day at sixth form and following your normal timetable will be crucial to keep up to date so I encourage you to do this if possible.
Top Tip – plan what to do in the time you save not having to travel into sixth form everyday.
For me, it’s a 30 minute drive into work so I have ‘gained’ an hour of travel time. I have decided to use this hour for my daily fresh air and exercise and am alternating daily between a short run, or slightly longer bike ride.
It has been lovely to hear from a number of you via email so please keep in touch. If you are having any difficulties please get in touch with myself or Mrs De Lashley on our school email addresses.
Thanks, Mr Charlton

Message from Mrs DeLashley (24/3/20)
Y12, I am pleased to see so many of you keeping yourselves busy and engaged with the work on the Home Learning tab. As you know this is really important and you must check-in and complete work each day. It is also important to keep yourself smiling through these temporary and extraordinary measures. Make yourselves a timetable of work, relaxation, hobbies, exercise and things you want to try that you have not previously had the time (indoors of course).
I have included a number of articles and extracts in the DEAR Time folder to provide you with some areas of interest and classic stories. Have a look! Keep in touch with each other via a range of social media apps, I am enjoying the Houseparty app (not sure my family are too keen yet!).
Keep safe and keep busy! Mrs D

Message from Mr Charlton
Good morning Yr12
I hope your first day of home study went well, and that you’ve been able to access work from each of your subject areas through the school’s website. Remember, you do not have to ‘log in’, simply click the ‘Home Learning’ tab on the school’s homepage.
Please communicate frequently with your teachers about the work they have set for you to complete and ensure it is your best work. This is a crucially important time for you and your education and I look forward to hearing from your teachers about how well you are doing in these difficult circumstances.
Mr Charlton
