A proud year of GCSE achievement

Congratulations to our Year 11 students

Students, families and staff have come together today to mark an important milestone as Year 11 receive their GCSE and vocational qualification results.

The occasion brings to a close five years of secondary education and celebrates much more than examination grades. Throughout their time at school, students have grown in confidence, developed new skills and made a valuable contribution to the wider school community.

This year’s results include many individual and collective successes. More than three-quarters of students secured grades 9 to 4 in both English and mathematics, while over 54% achieved grades 9 to 5 across the two subjects. Overall, 82% passed English and 78% passed mathematics, contributing to an Attainment 8 score of 51.89.

Students also achieved positive outcomes across the wider curriculum, including science, religious education, humanities and vocational courses. These results demonstrate the value of offering a broad curriculum that enables young people with different strengths and ambitions to succeed.

Among those celebrating notable achievements are:

  • Ren Baumann with one grade 9, seven grade 8s and one grade 7
  • Vidya Bhattacharya with five grade 9s, three grade 8s and two grade 7s
  • Sophie Bowling with two grade 9s, seven grade 8s and two grade 7s
  • Sam Button with ten grade 9s, one grade 8 and one grade 7
  • Amelie Hetherton with five grade 9s and six grade 8s
  • Aaden Luk with four grade 9s and seven grade 8s
  • Lucy Norman with two grade 9s, six grade 8s and two grade 7s
  • Samuel Perry with two grade 9s, six grade 8s and three grade 7s
  • Jacob Prow with two grade 9s and seven grade 8s
  • Charlie Taylor with two grade 9s, five grade 8s and four grade 7s
  • Lois Webb with five grade 9s and six grade 8s

Headteacher Lucie Pond said: “We are absolutely delighted with the achievements of this year group. Results day provides an important opportunity to recognise the progress every student has made and the individual story behind each set of grades.

Our Year 11 students have approached their studies with ambition, enthusiasm and determination. Their results are richly deserved and reflect the commitment they have shown throughout their time at school. They leave Year 11 with a great deal to be proud of, and it is wonderful to celebrate their success with them today.

We look forward to welcoming many of them back to our Sixth Form in September. Congratulations to every student, and thank you to our outstanding staff for the expertise, care and encouragement they provide, as well as to our students’ families for their invaluable support.”

Francesca De Lashley, Head of Sixth Form said: “We are so excited to welcome this cohort of ambitious young adults into the Sixth Form. They have done incredibly well and we are looking forward to supporting them on their next steps to adulthood.”

Another excellent year of post-16 results

Congratulations to our Sixth Form students

Today’s results are a well‑deserved cause for celebration, and we are delighted for each of our students. They reinforce our strong record at post‑16 and testify to the resilience, dedication and ambition of the young people entrusted to us. Every student has shown determination across a demanding two years of study; their commitment has resulted in the following outcomes:

  • 39% of all entries graded A* to A
  • 76% of all entries graded A* to B
  • 36% of A Level entries graded A* to A
  • 100% of entries graded A* to E

Mrs De Lashley, Head of Sixth Form said: “I am bursting with excitement for this cohort. They are a credit to the school and their families and I feel so proud that they are tomorrow’s future.

They have true aspiration, drive and a passion that is contagious. Their results are so very deserved and have been worked hard for and certainly not to be taken for granted.

Our truly comprehensive cohort started in very different positions and have had their own potential to achieve but to see them all putting their best foot forward and being able to walk away with the best possible outcomes for their efforts is the reason why we are delighted to share this day with them.

We have had some spectacular outcomes allowing students to access both Oxford and Cambridge, Medicine, Russell Group Universities and some of the most competitive apprenticeships. We don’t need to wish this cohort of young adults luck, they have what it takes to reach their aspirations and make the future a better place for us all.”

Students who have achieved particularly impressive results include:

  • Benedict Barrington with 3 A*s and an A grade going to study Music at the University of Cambridge
  • Mo Boudjema with 2 A*s and 2 A grades going to study Aerospace Engineering at the University of Bath
  • Ada Cole 3 A grades and an A* going to study Biological Sciences at the University of Durham

Headteacher Lucie Pond said: “To our Year 13’s, many of whom have been part of the Archbishop Holgate’s community for seven years, congratulations on these excellent results. They are a true testament to your perseverance and the application you have shown throughout your studies.

Thank you for everything you have contributed to school life; we wish you every success as you begin the next chapter of your lives. Finally, I want to thank our entire staff team for their dedication and commitment, and to parents and carers whose support has enabled our students to flourish and thrive.”
